Looking for Spring among the Remnants of Fall

It's March 31st and the woods are still a tangle of grey and dead branches.  The high yesterday was 47 degrees.  And that was a blessing!  This weekend might not make it out of the 30's.

But I have a new camera and I know there is life out there.  So I'm going to find it!

Much of the forest floor is still filled with the detritus of last fall.  Dead leaves, dead branches. I see no insects or signs of life in the dirt.

There is beauty in death as well.  Even with it's lack of color and drooping sorrow.

Last year's prickers share space with last year's vines.

Where color exists, it is only a faded memory of the brilliance of last fall.

The lichens have awakened!  Their greens and grays appear bright and happy against the still sleeping branches.

And there is life out here!  I can hear it, even when it tries to stay hidden!  Birds are everywhere.

Getting organized.  Making ready.

And something small has emerged from the ground.  It is green!  It is life!

A beautiful red-branched brier is sending forth tiny leaves.

And here, a clump of grass, fully green and dripping with the rain of life!

Spring is here!  It's just playing a game of hide and seek.

Easter with The Teeny Little Super Guy!

Our Easter celebration began with a little boy coming over to see the "Tat!"

The "Tat" loves the little boy, you see!  And he howled his mournful song so that he could come inside and play with him.

This Teeny Little Super Guy was curious about LaLa's new camera!  And perfectly happy to look into it---but not at all interested in smiling into it!

But some very fine cooks were good at smiling and frowning as they came into my kitchen to prepare their delicious additions to the feast!

Every once in a while, the Teeny Little Super Guy recharged his super powers by standing between them.

There was a serious deal going down here.  Fritz was offering large sums of furry love for anything Jackson could retrieve from the trash for him.  Luckily, the powers that be stopped this sort of illegal activity before the deal went through!

And the Teeny Little Super Guy was given a safer and less tempting place to play in!

Where he could discover a Teeny Little Oscar the Grouch...

And play with the spin toy that spins and spins!

No worries, his Alton Brown Cooking Parents could still peek in on him through the pass-through window.

Pretty soon, PopPop came home from his after-church duties and scooped up his "Main Man!"

Jackson is very content to be with his PopPop.

Perfectly happy to ride around on his hip and enjoy life.  Never wanting down---just enjoying the ride.

A little later, Jackson enjoyed looking through PopPop's Great Big "Vroom, Vroom" Book!  He truly loves to look at the classic cars and squeals "vroom, vroom!" as each page is turned and there is a new photo of a classic fancy car.  (And of course this makes his daddy and grandpa very happy indeed!)

The Easter Bunny brought a little something for Jackson to our house, too.  And the hopping little peep was kind of exciting!

But the "ball" was the best!

Slinky--not so much....when you have a "BALL!"

However, the floating pop-able "balls" were pretty cool!

"Ball!  Ball!"  as he popped every one!

When his other grandma arrived, she got in on the action, too!  While his uncle played with the hopping peep!

Then it was time for the feast!

Which made the Teeny Little Super Guy very happy!

It made his daddy very happy too---though he tried to disguise his joy!

Happy Easter!  We missed our other Teeny Little Super Guys and their parents and uncles and aunts!
